I found myself in Guwahati2015
Series of 60 photographs
inkjet prints, b/w & color
variable dimensionsProduced in Guwahati, the largest metropolitan area in Northeast India, the series “I found myself in Guwahati” was created in response to an invitation from Microclima (Venice, Italy) as part of the Guwahati Research Program artist residency.
Situated on the southern bank of the Brahmaputra River, Guwahati serves as a vital hub for commerce, education, and cultural exchange. As one of India’s fastest-growing cities, it is home to a rich and diverse population where multiple ethnic and religious communities coexist. The city’s constant movement, from bustling roads to moments of quiet intimacy, became an integral aspect of this photographic exploration.
With no predetermined themes or structured narratives, I approached the city intuitively, embracing moments as they unfolded. I was drawn to the nuances of everyday life, encounters, urban textures, and the interplay of tradition and the shifting landscape.
Recurring motifs, as festive events, the allure of animals, and seemingly overlooked details, emerged naturally, reflecting the urban rhythm of Guwahati, where cultural heritage and contemporary life intertwine. The work, ultimately, is a meditation on place, presence, and the act of seeing.
